SHREVEPORT, LA- A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Jerry L. Owen, 84, will be held on Monday January 30, 2017 at noon at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Chris Hough. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10a.m. to 12p.m. prior to the service. Military honors will be rendered during the memorial service by the United States Navy.
Jerry was born December 16, 1932. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was an avid story teller and a lover of Christian music, especially Jimmy Swaggart. When Jerry wasn't working as a Loss Prevention Specialist for Liberty Mutual he coached youth sports, primarily track. More than coaching he loved his family; as they were the light of his life, and he wasn't afraid of letting the world know how proud he was of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pond Owen; parents Alwin and Sepha Lee; granddaughter, Beth Owen. Those left to honor his memory are son, Michael and wife, Sue; son, David and wife, Cheryl; son, Mark and wife, Aimee; daughter, Brenda McDaniel and spouse, James; grandchildren: Nick and his wife, Brook, Zack, Valerie, Mason, Harrison, Sydney Owen and Leigh Huff; great grandchild, Spencer Huff; sister, Anita Gayle Wilson and spouse, Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Diabetes Association (donations.diabetes.org/).
