Jim Dempsey Ferguson, Sr., of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away July 6, 2014. He was 92 years of age.
His service will be conducted July 9, 2014, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, by David Vestal of Weatherford, Texas, and Buddy Holland of Waxahachie, Texas, under the direction of the Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Interment will be in Zion Rest Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Louisiana.
Jim D. Ferguson was born May 24, 1922, to the late Sam Ferguson and Julia Leonard Ferguson in Hartsburg, Texas. Jim was a highly decorated Purple Heart veteran of World War II where he served with the 101st Airborne. Jim went into Normandy in a glider, was in Bastogne when it was surrounded, and was with the group that took the Eagle's Nest. After the war, Jim took a job with Sunoco and retired after 33 years (1980) in communications.
Jim is survived by his wife, Helen and six children, Jim D. Ferguson, Jr., and wife, Judi, of Ennis, Texas, Vernon Johnson and husband, Robert, of Houston, Texas, JoAnne Copeland of Shreveport, Louisiana, Ted Richard Cook and wife, Cindy, of Florida, Judy Vestal and husband, David, of Weatherford, Texas, Buddy Holland and wife, Janet, of Waxahachie, Texas: grandchildren Paul Ferguson, Tara Ferguson, Rebecca Johnson- Edgerly, Kimberley Forcin, Marcia Sallee, Casey Cook, Chris Cook, Jeff Holland, Shane Holland, Alicia Vestal Purdy, and Eddie Vestal. He is survived by one cousin, Estelle Young. Jim is survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Sammie, and 3 sisters, Bonnie, Barbara, and Beulah.
