Funeral services for Jimmie Ray Gates will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 21, 2024, at Antioch Community Church in Goldonna, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Bro. Hayward Hossler and Bro. Elton Gunter. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery in Joyce, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m
Jimmie Ray Gates was born on October 31, 1936, in Sikes, Louisiana to Floyd Gates and Ola Gates and passed away on August 16, 2024.
Jimmie was proceeded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ola Gates; wife, Ida “Fuzzy” Gates; son, Rockey Gates; brothers, James and William Gates; and sister, Vera Setters.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Kenny Gates (Jessica), Daniel Gates, and Cody Gates (Toni); brother, Douglas “Curt” Gates (Deborah); grandchildren, Myra, Ashley, Jaxon, Layken, Cayson, and Deacon Gates; great grandchild, Rockelle Roque, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jimmie served his nation with honor and distinction, carrying the values he learned in the military throughout his life. After completing his service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Production Operators Inc., where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the respect he earned from his colleagues.
Outside of his professional life, Jimmie was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. These activities weren’t just hobbies for him—they were a way to connect with nature and spend quality time with those he loved. His family was his pride and joy, and he was happiest when surrounded by those closest to him.
Above all, Jimmie’s life was guided by his unwavering faith. His love for the Lord was the foundation of his life, providing him with strength, comfort, and a sense of purpose. He was an active member of his church community and often shared his faith with others, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Steven Knotts, Jameison Jeter, Jaxon Gates, Layken Gates, Bubba Gates, and Wesley Gates
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Meek, Max Timon, Caysen Gates, and Deacon Gates.
