Jimmy "Jim" Frank Smith

Graveside services for Jimmy “Jim” Frank Smith, 87, will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd. in Bossier City, Louisiana. A family visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Reverend John Harp. 

Jim was born September 20, 1937, in Corinth, Mississippi to Rev. James Smith and Verlie Smith and passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He and his wife Elwanda Kitchens Smith were married for 67 years. After they married, Jim received his BS degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University. The Smiths moved their young family to Shreveport in 1972 and put down deep roots. Their home in Southern Hills was always filled with family and friends. No one left the Smith home hungry and everyone felt loved. Jim lived a life of service to others. He was honored by the voters of Caddo Parish District 11 who elected him to three terms on Caddo Parish Commission.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James Smith and Verlie Smith; sister, Patricia Smith Briggs; and son-in-law, Joe Buffington. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Elwanda Kitchens Smith; son, Dr. Jerry Smith and wife, Roxanne; daughter, Sherri Smith Buffington; grandchildren, Megan Smith, Jacob Smith, Taylor Buffington Brassfield and husband, Daniel, and Mitchell Buffington and wife, Arielle; great-grandchildren, Liza Brassfield, Millicent Buffington and Barrett Buffington.

As we grieve the passing of this amazing man, we find peace that he is now with his Lord and Savior.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heart of Hope Ministries, a sanctuary for women and their babies in Keithville. 

The family would like to express our gratitude to the many physicians, WK Hospice, and all the wonderful caregivers who provided Jim with excellent and compassionate care. Your kindness will always be remembered.
