HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Jo Ann Stiles Hemphill, 82, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Homer, LA, on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Chuck Johnston, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M.Mrs. Hemphill was born March 19, 1937, in Springhill, LA, to John F. and Eva Mae Richardson Stiles. She entered into rest on Monday, August 12, 2019, at her home in Homer, LA. Mrs. Hemphill received a Bachelors' degree from Lamar University of Beaumont, TX. Then, she received a Masters' degree from LA Tech and eventually pursued her Doctorate of Education, EdD, from Northwestern of Natchitoches, LA. Mrs. Hemphill was a Special Ed Diagnostician for the Webster Parish School Board. After moving to Homer, she taught for Wade Correctional and LTI Boys Home in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Hemphill was a teacher and director for Special Ed in the Claiborne Parish School Board. She retired twice, but the third time was the charm. She retired to spend time with her family whom she dearly loved and were most important to her. Mrs. Hemphill square danced in competition and enjoyed traveling. She would deliver CD's with sermons to the nursing homes in Homer for the residents to listen to and would visit with them. Mrs. Hemphill loved the domino game "Chicken Foot" and if you came to the house, you better look forward to playing the game. Mrs. Hemphill was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elbert "Blakey" Hemphill; a daughter, Jona Wallace; four sisters, Frankie Harris, Helen Pepper, Hazel Wilburn, and Wanda Nickerson; and three brothers, Gerald Stiles, Odell Stiles, and Rayford Stiles.She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Su-Su and Paul Cross, Robin and Roger Burcham, and Brenda and Jim Cater; ten grandchildren, Paul Custer, Karen Turner, Curt Bell, Donnie Bell, Zack Smalling, Chazz Nolan, Kevin Terral, Dianne Reppond, Eric Reppond, Troy Bridges, and Timothy Bridges; sixteen great-grandchildren whom she loved very much; a sister, Joyce Moon; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
