SHREVEPORT, LA - Memorial services for Joe Mack Griffies, Sr., 80, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 2:00 p.m. until service time. Officiating will be Rev. Thumper Miller.
Joe was born on September 8, 1935 in Rome, Georgia to Earl and Mary Ruth Griffies and passed away on May 12, 2016. He met and married the love of his life, Nellie Adams, in 1952. Joe was an avid fisherman, an extremely talented basketball player, which led to him going semi-pro. He also enjoyed playing poker with his buddies for years. Joe worked for International Paper and retired as a Supervisor from the pulp mill. More than anything Joe loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren teaching them to fish. He will be deeply missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Debbie Grelk, son Michael Griffies, grandson Jesse Brown, granddaughter Rachel Brown, and brothers Larry Griffies and Earl Griffies. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Nellie Adams Griffies; son, Joe Griffies, Jr. and wife, Brandy; daughters, Cathy Brown, Jodie Fruge and husband, Jay; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses at Willis-Knighton North and Willis-Knighton Home Health for all the care and support they gave to Joe.
