Shreveport, La - Celebration of Life service for Mr. Joe Bond Schmidt, Jr., 85, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 26, 2015, in the Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Dr. Greg Davis and Rev. Kathy Wafer officiating. Interment will follow on the grounds of Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, LA. The family would like to welcome guests for visitation from 1:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM at Rose-Neath. Mr. Schmidt was born November 2, 1929, in Mansfield, LA, to the late Joe Bond and Eunice Frazar Schmidt, Sr. and was called home January 22, 2015 in Shreveport, LA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mansfield until moving to Shreveport and joining Broadmoor United Methodist Church in 2002. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. He graduated from Mansfield High School, attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Graduated from Pharmacy School at the University of Houston. Mr. Schmidt returned to Mansfield to work in the business his father founded in 1928, Service Drug, until opening his own business, Mansfield Drug, in 1964. He was a prominent business man in Mansfield, serving many years on the Board of Directors for First National Bank and a supporter of Mansfield High School athletics. Mr. Schmidt was a dedicated supporter of Tulane University, his father's alma mater, and was an avid Green Wave football fan. Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish the sweet memories Joe leaves behind, will be his beloved wife of 46 years; Gloria Pierce Schmidt, two children; David Pierce Justice and Marliese Justice Griffith and husband Jim, brother; Lowell Frazar Schmidt, two grandchildren; Lane Griffith King and husband Paul, Bailey David Griffith and wife Megan, one great-grandson; James Forrest King, extended family members and many wonderful friends. Honoring Mr. Schmidt as pallbearers will be Bailey Griffith, Paul King, Kenneth Lee, Hunter Yates, Roy Bridges, Ben Samuels and Ronnie Hendrix.
