Haughton, LA - A celebration of life for Joel Ivan Brazzell, Jr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Bro. Chad Mills, pastor of Beulah Land Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Rose-Neath Bossier.
Joel was born in Winnfield, LA on July 15, 1948 to Joel Ivan, Sr. and Audie Mae Brazzell and died September 6, 2017 in Shreveport. Joel worked at Troop G in Bossier City and was their first Louisiana State Trooper Motorcycle Officer. He always had a love for flying planes and decided to get his pilot's license. He then began flying for commercial oil companies. Joel retired from Morris Dickson Pharmaceuticals after 16 years of service.
Joel had a love for his country and the men who served. He showed his support by serving with the Patriot Guard. He was also involved with the Bossier Chapter of Christian Motorcycle Association, ministering to other motorcyclists.
Joel had a strong love for his Lord and Savior. He was very involved with his church, Beulah Land Baptist Church, and thought of them as family. Joel was well known as the left handed, upside down guitar player. He played guitar his whole life and loved playing for worship ministry at his church.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Joel Scott Nielsen.
Joel is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brazzell of Haughton; daughters, Wendy Nielsen of Shreveport, Melissa deMarigny and husband, Randy of Keithville; sister, Pamela Schwan and husband, Henry of Weatherford, TX; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
