SHREVEPORT, LA - A Memorial Service for John C. Baker, 73, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in The Chapel of St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be The Very Rev. Alston B. Johnson.
John was born November 20, 1943, in Shreveport, LA to Florence Maybell Payne Baker and John Percy Baker and passed away May 16, 2017, in his sleep while on vacation in Freeport, TX. Growing up it was just John and myself, I have had the blessing to have had a brother who kept a promise to my husband Gene, to move from his adopted home in Houston, TX, back here and take care of me, and he did.
Over the past few days I've heard so many stories about him and every one ended in how kind, gentle, and loving he was.
I'm so sad to lose John he was the history of the best and worst of me. He kept me grounded, he would say now Sonja "Listen to me", and it was good advice and right, even though I wanted to be right.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Gene Rogers, and grand-nephew, Alan Rogers. Left to cherish his memory is his close and loving sister, Sonja Rogers; nephew, Steve Rogers; cousins, Lee Curtis, Jason, Grace, Barret, and Ramsey Rogers; all the Lewis family especially, Thomas and Kathleen who brought him home.
Memorials may be made to the Philadelphia Center, 2020 Centenary Blvd., Shreveport, LA 71104, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
