SHREVEPORT, LA - John Baker Barr, Sr., 90, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 17 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA, and the funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street chapel. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Mt. Lebanon, LA at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Collin Wimberly, pastor of Trinity Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. John was born March 12, 1927 in Greenwood, LA. He was a member of the greatest generation, serving in the Merchant Marines during WWII. John graduated from LA Tech, where he was the manager of the football team. He was the regional manager of Continental Emsco, an oil field supply company. John was the chairman of the board of the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Association for many years and also served on the board of the Mt. Lebanon Historical Society. John was a director emeritus of the Louisiana Forestry Association and was recognized as the first centennial family forest owner in Louisiana. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling the piney woods of northwest Louisiana inspecting Baker Forests and Barr family timberlands. He was a member of the NAAGQ, a group of LA Tech football supporters. John enjoyed hunting at the family deer camp in Bienville Parish and fishing on Saline Lake with his family and friends. He attended many of his grandchildren's athletic events. John was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Edith Ann Jones Barr, and his parents, John M. Barr and Alma Baker Barr. He is survived by his son, John Baker Barr, Jr. (Baker) and his wife, Kathleen (Tookie), of Shreveport; his daughter, Ann Allen and husband, Joey, of Benton, LA.; five grandchildren, Trey Allen and his wife, Kari, Beth Allen Guidry and her husband, Carey, John Baker Barr, III (John) and his wife, Kathleen, Erin Barr Christensen, and her husband, Eric, and Brian Barr. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Hunter Allen, Colton Allen, Reily Hooper, Abbie Hooper, Jack Christensen, Mattie Christensen, Molly Barr, John Baker Barr IV (Baker), Drew Guidry, and Will Guidry. John is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Trey Allen, John Barr III, Brian Barr, his great grandson, Hunter Allen, Eric Christensen, Carey Guidry, Steve Larson, Randy Larson, Eric Stratton, and Mike Merritt. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Aillet, Leo Sanford, Red Aucoin, Sandy Shocklee and the members of the NAAGQ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon Historical Society, P.O. Box 28, Gibsland, LA, 71028, LTAC (Louisiana Tech Athletic Club) P.O. Box 3183, Ruston, LA 71272, or the charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to thank John's caregivers, especially Paula Lawless and Denova Aucoin.
