John W. Bowman

John passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. John was born November 12, 1941 in Bluefield, West Virginia to James and Louise Bowman. He graduated from Bluefield High School in 1959 and then served in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he went to Northeast LA State College (ULM) and graduated with a degree in marketing. In college, he was vice-president of Pi Sigma Epsilon Professional Selling, Marketing, and Sales Management Fraternity. Upon graduation, he worked for South Central Bell Telephone Company as manager. He later had several sales jobs before starting his insurance agency where he has worked for 45 years. John was always active in his church, Summer Grove Baptist, served on various committees, and was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a charter member of Southern Hills Business Association where he enjoyed serving. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Greg and wife Pam; one daughter, Sharon and husband Darren; four grandchildren, Caroline, Cooper, and Catie Claire Bowman and Harrison Jacobs; one brother, Kenneth and wife Ginger; and one sister, Connie and husband Ray. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Bowman, Bro. Murray Hodge, and Bro. Billy Crosby officiating. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank all of John's doctors, nurses, and all the medical staff for all of their care for John over many, many years. Special thanks go to Dr. Timothy Nichols for his wonderful care for John through many years. God bless you all. Memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice. Pallbearers will be Gene Simmons, Darren Rimmer, Cooper Bowman, Mike Washam, Dean Washam, Marvin Greer, and Donnie Adams.
