SHREVEPORT, LA - Dr. John Hendrick Chidlow passed away September 5, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. John was born in Shreveport, LA on November 2, 1940. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1958 before attending Tulane University as a pre-medical student. He received his MD from LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1965 then interned at Confederate Memorial Hospital. From 1966-1970 he did a residency in Urology at the Mayo Clinic. He returned to Shreveport in 1970 and practiced Urology here for 39 years, until retiring in 1999. During his practice he developed many lasting friendships with colleagues and patients, and was involved in multiple professional societies and was a Diplomat for the American Board of Urology. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport. In 1978, John married Patti Moore, they had 3 children and celebrated 36 years of marriage.
John was good to people. Those who knew him knew his abundant compassion and willingness to help a friend. He was quick to laugh and always had a joke handy. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing and developed many friendships through these activities. He spent many hours in the woods with his brother and sons. John was a Christian who led by example and loved to share his faith. His easy manner and ability to lift everyone's spirits with a smile made him a joy to be with. Anyone fortunate enough to have spent time with him will cherish those memories.
John was preceded in death by his mother, May Hendrick Chidlow and father, Thomas Judson Chidlow, Jr. He is survived by his wife Patti; sons, Dr. John Hendrick Chidlow, Jr. and Andrew Doucet Chidlow; daughter, Laurie Chidlow Comegys and husband, Scott; granddaughters, Emmy, Kate and Camille Comegys; brother, Dr. Judd Hendrick Chidlow and wife, Judy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be Harlan Beene, Will Blanchard, Jack Dominick, Nick Ferlito, Tobin Grigsby, Phil Mayers and Scotty Moran. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Leigh Dillard, Dean Griffen and Jim Myers.
Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St. on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Shreveport in Fellowship Hall at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Jeffery Raines.
The family would like to thank Detrick James, Yolanda Johnson and Andrea Turks for their love and care during John's illness.
