John Samuel Cole, Jr.
HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. John Samuel Cole, Jr., age 81, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Homer, LA, on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jim Phillips, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 5-8 p.m.
Mr. Cole was born on April 14, 1938, in Shongaloo, LA, to Audine Ash and John S. Cole, Sr. He entered into rest on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, in Dallas, TX. Mr. Cole served his country in the National Guard for nine years. He was employed and retired by Ludlow as a supervisor after 49 years. Mr. Cole loved old cars and was a grease monkey mechanic.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Helen Bogues Cole; second wife, Mary Ann Salotti Cole; son, John Clayton Cole; brother, Charles Wayne Cole; three step-brothers, Doug Couch, Melvin Couch, and Billy Couch; and step-sister, Joy Faye Winget.
He is survived by his son, Donnie Cole of Homer, LA; daughter, LaDonna Hicks of Homer, LA; step-son, David Hall and wife Ashley of Royce City, TX; five grandchildren, Tony Hicks, Jr., Jessica Hicks Barnette and husband Paul, Ashley Hicks Willis and husband Marcus, and Donna Jo Risher and husband Chris, and Alexandra Hall; five great-grandchildren, Levi Hicks, Ashton Hicks, Christian Hicks, Landrie Risher, and Grayson Risher; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Robert Heard, Buddy Nelson, Brian Hollenshead, Ronald Day, James McFarland and Kenny Sanford.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Cole, his family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
