John D. "Johnny" Johnson

John David “Johnny” Johnson, passed away on January 27, 2025. Visitation will be at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Minden, followed by interment at Gardens of Memory in Minden.

He was born on June 21, 1942, the youngest of five children of L. N. Johnson, Sr. and Julia Cornell McDade Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan LeCompte Johnson, his son, Eric Gerard Johnson, and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Hannah Johnson. He is predeceased by his parents, and siblings, L. N. Johnson, Jr., Marianna Johnson, James M. “Jimmy” Johnson, and Joan Johnson Harwood.

He was a 1960 graduate of Minden High, a graduate of LSU in 1964, and a graduate of Loyola University School of Law in 1973. He was a proud member of the Minden High School Band and the LSU Fighting Tiger Marching Band.

John practiced law in Minden for 52 years. He specialized in real estate law, which led to his love of land. He loved checking titles, and during his practice, handled thousands of real estate matters. He loved timber land and spent countless hours on weekends walking on his properties, enjoying the trees. 

He served as a board member of the Louisiana Forestry Association, was an active member of the Minden Noon Lions Club for over 50 years, and proudly served as President. He was a Mason, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his greatest pleasures in life was playing the clarinet in the orchestra at First Baptist Church in Minden.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Troy Martin, David Peterson, Mike Holomon, Mike Merritt, Carlton Frye, and Namon Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Fritz, Jimmy Russell, Bobby Mourad, Walter Martin, and members of the First Baptist Church orchestra.

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Dr. Michael Chanler, and the emergency room staff at Minden Medical Center, the staff at Meadowview Health and Rehab, Bro. Charlie Lechner, and Bro. Bill Crider.
