John William Davidson

John William Davidson, 77, was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on November 25, 1946, to parents, Wilmer L. Davidson and Sadie Jones Davidson and passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at his home after a brief illness.

John was raised in Mansfield, Louisiana and graduated from Mansfield High School. He went on to Northwestern Louisiana University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business and accounting. Upon completing his degree, John started working for the Department of Revenue from which he retired after 33 years.

On January 1, 1985, John married the love of his life, Judith, better known as Judy. Having never been married before, John took on the role of stepfather to Judy’s six children, four of which were biological and two of Judy’s stepsons from a previous marriage. He treated them all with love and acceptance.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Davidson and Sadie Davidson; brother, Lieutenant Colonel Paul W. Davidson; and stepdaughter, Kelly Blanchard Roberts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Judy Davidson; brother, Robert “Robbo” Davidson and wife, Linda; stepchildren, James A. Blanchard, Donna Jackson (Dewey), Michael Blanchard (Teree), David Rak, Darren Rak (Nancy); granddaughter, Reagan Jackson; nieces, Allison Carpenter (Marshall), Ann Vidrine (Dustin), Ashley Sonnier (Colby); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

John and Judy loved to travel and had a special love for cruising. They were blessed to have visited many ports, domestic and abroad. Another favorite location was Key West, Florida which they visited frequently as well as Lake George, New York which was Judy’s childhood “stomping ground.”

John was a quiet, observant individual who loved to “people watch.” He was quick-witted and had a wonderful, humorous, dry sense of humor. Once he let you in, you were truly a dear friend.

A family graveside service will be held in the upcoming weeks at the family cemetery. A special thanks to his Hospice caregivers, Myra and Peyton for your compassionate care of John during his final days. You both were truly a blessing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Community UMC and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes or the charity of their choice.
