Keithville, LA - John Erie was born on January 15, 1939 in Kilgore, TX to Alfred and Hazel Turner Erie. He went home to heaven on October 9, 2016 following complications from heart surgery.
John was a much loved son, husband, father, grandpa, and brother. John was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Pat Harper. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; three daughters, Elizabeth Erie Milam, Stephanie Duncan both from Shreveport, and Ginny Erie of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Abigail and Anna Milam, and Andrew Duncan; brothers Bill Erie and wife, Barbara, and Jerry Erie of Texarkana, TX; one sister, Barbara Hawks; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. John was a devoted husband and father. He dearly loved his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved.
John loved God with all his heart. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was raised in East Texas and Texarkana area and settled in Shreveport. John proudly served his country in the US Navy. In 1972 he joined the Shreveport Police Department where he served 25 years. During this time he was proud to serve on the Police and Fire Civil Service Board for 16 years. After retirement, he worked in law enforcement for Centenary College of Louisiana. In his younger day's he loved to play fast pitch softball. He had the honor to be named to the Louisiana Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 2003. John was always up for a good game of golf and in his later years you could find him every morning at the Meadowlake Golf course clubhouse hanging out with his golfing buddies.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Brother Ernie Fegley and Brother Marc Roath officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be Chad Erie, Jerry Ray Erie, Jon Erie, Robert Hawks, Chet Berthelot, and Dennis McGuffie.
Honorary pallbearer will be grandson, Andrew Duncan.
