John Frank Herren of Homer, La. was born May 9th, 1926 in Hico, La. and passed away on August 12th 2022 at the age of 96.
He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Alice Britt Herren; his parents, Frank Mitchell Herren and Vera Etta Fowler of Hico; brothers Cecil and wife Mildred, Allen and wife Tommy Dean, Doil, and Wayne, and by brother-in-law Junior Hall. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Barbara Patterson Herren; sister Margie Rivers, sisters-in-law Nelda Herren and Sadie Hall; daughter Vicki Colvin and husband Loyd, son Kerry Herren and dear friend Beth Hogan; grandchildren David Allen, Christy Kirkley, Melissa Cardwell, John Lee Allen, Paul Allen, and Lindsay Stanley; 8 great-grandchildren; cousins David Fowler and Tommy Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was a lifelong member of Harmony Chapel Methodist Church and also attended Pleasure Point Baptist Church after moving to Lake Claiborne in 1979. He loved fishing on the lake and RV camping. Frank and Mary Alice delighted in traveling all over North America from Mexico to Alaska.
In Frank’s early life, he worked in a local sawmill and later for Rock Island Railroad, getting to work by hitchhiking or riding a bike. In the early 1950’s he began working for Texas Gas and remained with them for over 40 years before retiring.
He was known for his warmth and wit and his friendly outgoing nature, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed visiting with friends and he treasured his family, never missing an opportunity to have a family reunion or get together.
The family would like to thank Shirley Harrison, Iris Fair, and Diane Chatman for years of devoted care and friendship; to Beth Hogan for her love and support; the Doctors and staff of Claiborne Memorial Medical Center; and neighbors Gary and Mary Jane Smith for always being there for them.
The children and grandchildren Praise God for giving the gifts of Frank and Mary Alice who were kind, loving, and caring parents and for blessing them again with Barbara who has been and continues to be the most selfless and devoted wife, mother, and caregiver through thick and thin!
Graveside service will be Wednesday, August 17th at 10:00 AM at Harmony Chapel Cemetery in Hico. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Harmony Chapel Cemetery Building Fund or Cemetery Fund.
