HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. "John S." Hightower, 78, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ben Booth, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the service.John S. was born June 26, 1939, in Minden, LA to Sara Edna Mae Arceneaux and Frank T. Hightower, Jr. He entered into rest on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, in Shreveport, LA following a lengthy illness. He was a lifetime Claiborne Parish resident. During his formative years he was heavily involved in 4-H where he won numerous awards, a scholarship to LSU, and started his first career raising Jersey cows. Following in his father's footsteps, John S. went on to deliver mail in the Homer area for 55 years. He also served the community as a former member of the Claiborne Parish Policy Jury. In his personal life, John S. helped to rear nine children. He was always outnumbered because eight were girls. John S. was a well-known member of Claiborne Parish and admired by all. Warm and friendly, he never met a stranger. John S. will be missed by his family, friends, the post office, and the entire community.John S. was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joan Holloway; and brother, Patrick L. Hightower.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda Murphy Hightower; children, Judy Waller and husband Dan of Homer, Susan Knight and husband Christopher of Shreveport, Cydni Scroggs and husband Chris of Ruston, John Frank Hightower of Homer, Wendy Vogel and husband John of Jacksonville, FL, Misty Salard and husband John of Natchitoches, Christy Chandler and husband Chris of Homer, and Frosty Neal of Homer; siblings, Frances Minchew and husband West, Joe Hightower and wife Laverne of Summerfield, and Catherine Graham of Quitman, AR; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Pallbearers were Jessy Foster, Hank Foster, Dave Collins, Michael Taunton, William Holloway, Allan Taunton, Robert Holloway, Connor Chandler, Casey Chandler, and Charlie Waller.In lieu of flowers honoring John S., his family suggests memorials be made to Claiborne Parish 4-H Club, Attn: Teresa Raley, PO Box 299, Homer, LA, memo: John S.
