Dr. John "Roy" Horton
SHREVEPORT, LA- A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Dr. John "Roy" Horton, 92, will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 in Rose-Neath Southside at 2 pm. Following the service, the internment will be held at Centuries Memorial Park. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at noon.
Roy was born May 24, 1924 in Elm Grove, La and went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2017. Before graduating class of '45 at Texas A&M, he put his education on hold to serve as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army in WWII. He later received Louisiana Tech's 1st issued Doctorate of Engineering. He was a Fellow member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was also a member of Rotary Club and a long-time active member of Summer Grove UMC. But more than anything, he loved his family.
Preceding Roy in death is his wife, Salley Horton; son, John Leroy Horton Jr.; grandson, Chris Scarberry; brother, Brack Horton. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Arthur Horton and wife, Elena; daughter, Sara Horton Scarberry and spouse, Mike; sister, Lola Horton Armistead; grandchildren: Keith Horton and wife Karla, Brian Horton and wife Emily, David Horton, Carly Horton Stuart and spouse Ryan, Angela Horton, Meredith Scarberry and spouse Jon Grigg; great grandkids, Anna, John Sidney, Julia, Jake, Kiersten, Annabelle and Josephine; and several nieces and nephews.
