John (Johnny) Cecil Hutchins

John (Johnny) Cecil Hutchins, 70, died on April 17, 2018 in Monroe. He was born December 16, 1947 in Shreveport, LA. He graduated from Grand Cane High School. He lived in the Shreveport-Bossier area for most of his life. From a young child to 16 years of age, Johnny spent a lot of time at Shriner's Hospital of Shreveport. He was an active member of AA for many years. Johnny was very proud of the work he did at the mental health outpatient clinic at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, where he retired. Johnny spent his last years with his sister where he enjoyed sitting on the porch reading and watching the birds and other wild life. Johnny is survived by his sister, Sally Hutchins Basco of Choudrant, LA; niece, Shelia Hancock and husband Pete and children Dillon Hogan and Maddie Ray; niece, Jennifer Payne and husband Steve and children Logan and Karson Aaron and husband Logan and their daughter Ruby Raye; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Burford and Cecil Odell Hutchins; grandparents, Minnie Hall and John G. Burford, Sr., and Sallie B. and Jessie June Hutchins. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Trinity Gloster Cemetery in Gloster, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Shreveport or to the church of donor's choice.
