SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services for John Wesley McGrew, Jr., 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Chad Hardbarger. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
John was born on October 5, 1929 in Shreveport, LA to John W. McGrew, Sr. and Edith Paul McGrew. He passed away on August 7, 2014. He was a resident of Shreveport. He began his working years at A & P Grocery Store. John retired as a mechanic from Rountree Cadillac with 30 years of service. He served as an Auxillary Shreveport policeman. John was a member of the Antique Car Club and enjoyed Bee Keeping and working on cars. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anne Ware McGrew; his parents, and sister, Ellen Connelly. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Chandler and husband, Tom, Evalyn Bean and husband, Carl; grandchildren, Shelley Chandler, Jennifer Richardson, Rachel Linebach and Heather Screws; great-grandchildren, Addison and Jack Richardson, Serenity and Elaina McManus and Lauren Linebach.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be W.P. Ray, Jimmy Screws, Chris Moellenkamp, Cody Moellenkamp and Ted Riser. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Hill and Harold Brewer.
