SHREVEPORT, LA - John Spencer Towrye Howard, Jr. passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the age of 71 years. Son of Adele Cochran Howard and John Spencer Towrye Howard, Sr. Beloved husband of Gloria Randolph Howard. Father of Wendi Howard McMillan and husband Timothy of Reidsville, N.C., John Spencer Towrye Howard III and wife Shannon of Metairie, LA, Barry Scott Howard of Metairie, LA and Kristin Lauryn Howard of Denver, CO. Step-father of Nicholas Putch III and wife Anna, Dr. David Louis Dice, Jr. and Joshua Arthur Dice and wife Stephanie. Survived by grandchildren, Alan Charles McMillan, Laura Rose Howard, Hayden Scott Spencer McMillan, Madison Adele Howard, Ryan Robert Howard, and Emma Kait Louise Howard and step-grandchildren Sara Elizabeth Nicole Putch, Stella Rae Ann Putch, Allie Grace Dice and Jacob Lee Cole. Sister Joan Howard Heepke and husband Richard. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his four-legged boys, Pica and Mecca. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David Alan Howard and Robert Gagg Howard.
John was a graduate of St. Matthias Elementary School, De La Salle High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. A lover of all sports, he played baseball for Southeastern Louisiana University and a Semi-pro farm team at Paducah, Kentucky and was a former Louisiana State Tennis Champion and won numerous awards. John had a long career in the Funeral and Cemetery Industry and was the Sales Manager for Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, LA. He was a dedicated member of the Elks Lodge #122, having served as Past Exalted Ruler.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday July 21, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge #122, 310 E. Preston Ave., Shreveport, LA 71105. Relatives and friends attended a Catholic Memorial Mass on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Christopher The Martyr Catholic Church, 3924 Derbigny St., Metairie, LA. 70001 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation was held at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
