John Silver Stephens passed away peacefully October 20, 2014 surrounded by family. John was born in Shreveport, LA on September 29, 1931. He attended Wentworth Military Academy, Coushatta High School and Louisiana State University. He received his Juris Doctorate from LSU Law School in 1958. John soon returned to his hometown of Coushatta where he practiced law for over 20 years before moving to and resuming his practice in Shreveport. Regardless of where he was, he was always proud to be a "country lawyer." John was a kind and gracious gentlemen with an amazingly sharp mind and quick wit. He was generous to a fault, a loyal friend and loving father.
John was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and numerous professional organizations. He served as Assistant District Attorney for Red River Natchitoches Parishes and as District Judge of the 39th JDC.
John was preceded in death by his father, Albert Leonard Stephens, Sr.; mother, Mary Ellen Silver Stephens; brother, Albert Leonard Stephens, Jr.; and son-in-law, John Douglas Lynn. He is survived by Judy Rausch; daughter Virginia Ellen Stephens Lynn; daughter, Melanie Stephens Rogers and husband, Ricky; grandchildren, John Douglas Lynn, Jr., Mary Virginia Lynn Middleton and husband, Ross, Lauren Wilkerson Rogers, and Stephens Robert Rogers.
Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street on Thursday, October 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Friday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul M. Schuler, Dr. Kamlesh Jani & the Lifecare Staff at WK Pierremont for their wonderful care during John's illness. Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to Jennifer Griffin for her loving and tireless assistance to John.
