John Anthony Tuggle

John Anthony Tuggle, age 61, resident of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on September 18, 2024. He was born on July 13, 1963, in San Bernardino, California to John Harrell Tuggle and Donna Ann Sestrich Tuggle.

A memorial service honoring John’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, located at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church of Shreveport, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport, LA 71106. Officiating the service will be Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

John and his wife, Rebecca Marie Rehm Tuggle, shared their lives for 31 years. He proudly earned his Master of Arts in American History and Master of Library Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. John was involved in many community organizations including: Director, Shreve Memorial Library; Founder, Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival; Assistant Director for Public Services, Live Oak Public Libraries, Savannah, GA; District Coordinator: North District, Houston Public Library; Board Chair, United Way of Northwest Louisiana; Past Board President, Gingerbread House Children’s Advocacy Center; Member, Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Foundation; Member and President-Elect training facilitator, Rotary Club of Shreveport; Member, American Library Association; Member, Public Library Association; and Past President, Rotary Club of Savannah East.

John’s interests included bowling, cycling, shooting, reading, and music. He was deeply passionate about early childhood literacy, child advocacy, and his beloved Las Vegas Raiders. He embraced Stoic philosophy as a means to cope with the turmoil of life itself and the inequity of his pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Harrell Tuggle. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Rehm Tuggle; mother, Donna Ann Tuggle; brother, Joseph Van Tuggle; along with his in-laws, and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins around the country.

John will be deeply missed by many and remembered as an excellent listener and exceptional leader. He will be remembered by his loved ones and friends as kind, intelligent, empathetic, and generous.
