SHREVEPORT, LA - A memorial service celebrating the life of John R. Willis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. A reception and visitation will follow in the church parlor. Officiating will be Rev. Mimi McDowell.
John was born on February 15, 1929 in Neshoba County, Mississippi and went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. He graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a Bachelor's of Science in Geology. He began his career with AMOCO in Shreveport, LA, Jackson, MS, and Houston, TX where he worked for 13 years. He also worked for Westland Petroleum Corp and Amoruso Petroleum Co. in Houston, TX. John later relocated to Shreveport where he retired in 2016 from Jeems Bayou Production after 34 years. John was a member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, where he attended the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of the Shreveport Geological Society and American Association of Petroleum Geologists. John was dedicated to his work but his greatest passion of all was the love he had for his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Lee and Eula Willis, and his brother, Joe Lewis Willis. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years Jo Houston Willis of Shreveport, LA; son, John Gregory Willis and wife Lynn Ann of Georgetown, TX, daughter, Joni Willis Mulkey and husband Chuck of Parker, TX; grandchildren, Annie Willis Milam and husband Barret, Lee Houston Willis, Shannon Celeste Mulkey, and Luke Willis Mulkey; two nephews, Walt Willis, Glenn Willis; and one niece, Jenny Willis Criddle.
