Johnny "John" Mack Foster

Funeral services were held for Johnny Mack “John” Foster, age 73, at Holly Ridge Assembly of God, 857 Holly Ridge Road, LA, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., and Rev. Rodney Gray, officiated. Interment was at Summerfield Cemetery in Summerfield, LA. Visitation was at the church from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.

John is the fourth child and second son of Mack and Juanita Foster. He was born August 5, 1951, in Junction City, LA. John passed from this life after a long illness on September 7, 2024. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. John loved running the dogs and hanging out with the hunting guys. He worked in the oilfield as a driller for several drilling contractors and was well respected by his peers. He loved to read. John went into the U.S. Army in 1971 and served during the Vietnam Conflict, serving in Germany throughout his active service. He loved to joke and be playful with kids. John gave many of the boys their first hunting gun and encouraged them to participate in the outdoor sports that he himself loved. Even though John had a rough “redneck” persona, to those who knew him, he had a kind and loving heart.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Goocher Foster and parents, Mack and Juanita Foster.

He is survived by his ten siblings, Kathie Mills, Helen Foster, Paul “Pete” Foster, Francis Rasberry, Dan Foster, Patsy Helms, Harry “Fred” Foster, Susan Rasberry, Melba “Mae” Green, and Billy Bob “Hop” Foster; and many more nieces and nephews that John loved so much.

As John’s illness progressed and he needed help, our sister, Francis moved in to his home and stayed for six months, taking care of him. These last months, Wade and Pete spent many hours caring for John. Ms. Ella Ford came out of retirement to also care for John. We thank her so much. Other family members took shifts and days to be there for our precious brother. We thank Bristol Hospice workers for their care and all the friends that checked on John, prayed for John, and shared their faith with John. For all of your love and concern, we thank you.

Pallbearers were Jake Foster, Will Foster, Jobob Foster, Jessy Foster, Hank Foster, and Matt Helms.

Honorary pallbearers were his brothers, Pete Foster, Dan Foster, Fred Foster, and Hop Foster.
