Services to honor the life of Jonathan Mark Stewart will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Sparta, Louisiana. Bro. Orvell Bryant will officiate the services. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, December 20, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Jonathan was born on May 28, 1953, in Lafayette, Louisiana to John M. Stewart and Clara Warren Stewart and departed this life on December 17, 2024. He was a 1971 graduate of Arcadia high school. After starting his undergraduate degree in English at Louisiana Tech, he finished that degree after completing his first year at LSU Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate. After passing the bar, he formed a partnership with his father, John Stewart in Arcadia, Louisiana
Jonathan loved the outdoors and bird hunting with his beloved Brittany Spaniels. A lover of music and the arts, he played the guitar and was an avid reader. He was a Christian who studied and enjoyed discussing scriptures. In addition to his legal practice, Jonathan served as an Assistant District Attorney in the 2nd Judicial District for 24 years before being elected and serving as the District Attorney from 2008-2014. He was the Town Attorney for Gibsland and served on the Board of Gibsland Bank and Trust. He also served as the Bienville Parish School Board attorney for many years. Jonathan and his family were avid LSU fans. He loved watching LSU play and spent many Saturdays pulling for the Tigers, even attending a National Championship Game in New Orleans.
Jonathan was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Stewart, and his beloved son, Jonathan Mark Stewart, II. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Carol Wimberly Stewart; his sons Joshua Stewart (Renn Ardoin), and Shea Sullivan; his daughter Stacey Bergeron; grandchildren, Isabella Bergeron, Tyler Boyett, Maddie Sullivan and Daxyn Stewart; his sister Ginger Stewart Eaves; his brothers Ethan Stewart and William Stewart; and son-in-law, Gary Bergeron. Additionally, he leaves his nieces and nephews as well as many friends who will miss his love, warmth and humor.
