Joseph L Bartlett
Joseph L. Bartlett was born on February 27, 1935 in Simsboro, Louisiana to Leonard R. and Maudie Bartlett. He is preceded in death by his parents including his step-mother, Ruby Bartlett and brother, Wade. Joe "Lil Red" graduated from Arcadia High School in 1954. After graduation, Joe enlisted into the United States Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Nellie, on December 30, 1954. Joe served his country for 20.5 years serving in Germany, Italy and several bases throughout the United States. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe worked at Ark-La-Gas for 20 years where he retired and set on a voyage to enjoy activities he loved. Joe enjoyed to do wood-working. He prided himself in making furniture for his family and friends. Mostly, Joe loved working with Mike, who told him he was a Master Craftsman in wood working and never saw in flaw in his workmanship. Joe was a perfectionist, even though mistakes may have been made, no one else would ever have known. Mike gave him work, while Joe would 'dicker' with Mike on how hard the job was! Joe even scowled when asked to make a cat box cover using Bob Villa instructions (Joe wasn't fond of cats). But he completed it with pride. Joe loved to play golf with his buddies, Bill and Claude. Joe really enjoyed playing golf with his son-in-law, Rodney Duda, where bets were made, mulligan's were given, and strokes not counted. Rodney allowed Joe to shoot from the 'old man' tees to give him the advantage. At the final count, Joe was one up on Rodney! Joe coveted the days he could play golf with his son, Joey, and daughter Connie. Rodney never could believe when Joe would tell Connie "Oh just pick it up and don't count it." Joe was wowed by how powerful Joey could hit the ball and always complimented him on his drives. Fishing was another joy of Joe's. Joe added his Dramamine to his tackle box but it didn't work. Finally, Joe went deep sea fishing in New Hampshire and caught lots of haddock and cod. Was he proud!! The Dramamine worked. Joe had to elicit help from Rodney's son, Eric Duda, to reel up his catches!! What a Fish Tail Day. Joe was very proud of his daughter, Robin. Robin is the athletic one of the bunch! Golf doesn't require athleticism! Robin umpires baseball, plays softball, and now is training to be a in referee for football. Robin joined a women's tackle football team for the City of Shreveport. Joe attended games and cheered her on. He was especially proud when her team the "Shreveport Aftershock" won the Women's Tackle Football Championship. Joe loved his dogs, "Sunshine" to Charlie, Buddy, and Muffin. Joe and Nell enjoyed watching baseball together with Muffin (who would bark at the TV when the Texas Rangers didn't hit). Joe loved football especially the Saints (or Ain'ts he would fondly call them) and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching old westerns and old country music (even if his kids didn't like it). He loved to annoy his family with flipping quarters in his hand or pocket. Joe attended church regularly and lived his life according to the Bible. Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Nell and his 3 children - Connie and husband Rod, Joey and wife Donna, and Robin and husband John. He is also survived by his Sister that he loved, Sharon and her family Tommy, Dawn, and Heather. Joe treated each of his kids as though they were the 'favorite' while filling his family with love, fun, and lots of praise. Joe is very proud of all of his grandchildren, Matthew, Brandelyn, Kenny, Kyle, Emily, Andrew, Chesli, Samuel, Jennifer, Hunter, Jacey, Elvis, Ginny, Eric, Jen,Robert, Sarah; and great grandchildren, Arianna, Seth, Loralye, Amelia, Dylan, Brynlee, Baby Boy, Addalise, Brielle, Baby, Julia, and Kaitlyn. Joe will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Burial will be with full military honors at the graveside, Union Baptist Church, Arcadia, LA, at 2:30pm. Donations can be made to the Northwest Louisiana State Veterans Home in lieu of flowers. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all of your support and prayers during the last four months and especially during this time of sorrow.
