Joseph was born on October 11, 1975 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Loy Melton Free, Jr. and Callie Jean Freeman. Joseph was a loving and kind family man and friend. Ever the prankster, he always wore a glowing smile on his face. He loved his wife and children with all his heart, though they often bore the brunt of his pranks. Joseph loved to fish and hunt, and he enjoyed teaching his children his love and respect for the outdoors. Most of his adult life he earned his living working on drilling rigs. His exceptional skills as a driller, and as a directional driller, were well known and respected among his colleagues. Later in life he took up earning a wage by exercising one of his other passions, welding. Many an afternoon he could be found around his "mancave" welding a bead on one of his projects or repairing something for a friend. His final occupation, driving a log truck for Mr. Perry Pegues, was something he took a lot of pride in and enjoyed immensely. Though it would eventually cost him his life, there is nothing he would have rather went out doing.
Preceding Joseph in death are his paternal grandparents, Melton and Etoyce Free and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Elaine Freeman.
He is survived by his wife, Amie Free; his father, Loy Free, Jr. and wife Connie; his mother, Callie Freeman; his sons, Logan Free, Colton Free, and Weston Free; his daughter, Alexis Free Isgitt and husband Logan; his step-daughter, Hannah McAllum; his brothers, Jody Free and Justin Free and wife Senika; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Honoring Joseph as pallbearers will be Jeff Harris, Casey Birdwell, Scott Kelly, Nolan Patrick, Robert Jones, and Trey Campbell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Perry Pegues, Joshton Free, Jackson Ross, Billy McGinty, and Jean Williams.
