JL was born August 31, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to Joseph and Winona McKinney Madere and passed away on February 15, 2016. JL was a 1946 graduate of Fairpark High school, then went to Centenary College of Louisiana and was a proud member of the Centenary Choir. One of his last outings was to hear Centenary Choir perform "Rhapsody In View" with his daughter and granddaughter. JL began his career for the Shreveport Fire Department then branched out into the automotive industry working as a master mechanic for numerous businesses in town. He was a jack of all trades and tinkered with anything, whether it be the lawn mower, toilet or the air-conditioner, he could take them apart but maybe not get them back together. JL was an active member of First Methodist Church of Natchitoches. He was a member of the choir and served as treasurer for many years. JL loved the Lord and was a faithful man of God. Upon his retirement, JL and his loving wife, Ruth, settled at their camp on Black Lake with their two dogs, Apricot and Snowball.
Preceding JL in death were his parents Robert and Winona Ybos, his wife, Ruth Madere, grandson, Richard Madere and son-in-law, Victor Cascio. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard Madere, daughters, Roxanne Gilleland, and husband, Ned, Jr., and Robin Cascio; grandchildren, Tamara Crane, Trey King, Angie Cascio, Chenoa Hakun and Ned Gilleland III; great-grandchildren, Daniel Crane, Maysun King, and Ashlyn Hakun; mother of his children, Jerry Mason Edmonds; sister, Bobbye Watson and husband, Ben, and brother, Clarence Ybos and wife, Susy. Also left behind are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Honoring JL as pallbearers will be Trey King, Tom Runyon, Jack Rains, Alan Mason, and Ned Gilleland III.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Alma and Tom Runyon, Mary Beth and Travis Guin for their love and kindness.
In honor of JL's fondness and love of animals, in lieu of flowers or plants memorial donations may be made to natchitocheshumane.com.
