Joseph E. Townsend, Sr.

GLOSTER, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph "Joe" Townsend, Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Fellowship Community Church in Gloster, LA. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery. Pastor Josh Burford and Pastor Ed Cooper will be officiating. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118.

Joe was born November 9, 1928 in Wauchula, FL to James Edgar and Lola Hendry Townsend and passed away on September 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Joe proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp.

Joe was preceded in death by parents, brothers, sisters, wife, Betty Gault Townsend, daughter, Betty Marla Townsend and son, John Timothy Townsend. Those left to treasure his memory are his wife of 23 years, Louanna Townsend; son, Joe Townsend, Jr and wife Grace; daughter, Melody Townsend Bassett; step-sons, Jason Hartley and wife, Kelly, and Jared Hartley; daughter-in-law, Betty Rayburn Townsend; sister-in-law, Era Faye Gault; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Honoring Joe as pallbearers will be Jeremy Spears, Joseph Bassett, Timothy Townsend, Joshua Townsend, Benjamin Hartley and Jeff Gault.
