SHREVEPORT, LA - A Mass for Josephine Rita Portero Giro, 85, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA.
Josephine was a faithful servant to the Lord, a devoted Catholic who attended St. Joseph's Church. She was a loving mother, a dedicated grandmother and devoted sister and aunt. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Josephine retired after 42 years of service at Blue Grass/Glazer Distributors.
Josephine was born April 13, 1930 to Joseph and Rosa Farina Portero and passed away on May 2, 2015. She is preceded by her parents; sister, Dora Feritta; brothers, Charlie Portero, and Tony Portero. Josephine is survived by her son, Paul Giro (Arthur Smith); daughters, Lisa Harrington (Michael), Sheila Halbur (Frank); grandchildren, Tiffany Morehead (G.K.), Kimberly Harrington, Matthew Harrington (Lauren), Amber Cavallo (Johnathon); sisters, Ann Catanese, Pat Mondello, Rose Mary McCawley; brother, Joe Portero, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Josephine as pallbearers will be Mark McCawley, Anthony Catanese, Sammy Mondello, Brock Restovich, Stephen Wann and Chad Shaw.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. David Abdehou, Dr. Himanshu Desai and Dr. Charles Haragon, as well as the entire nursing staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont for all their support and care.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St Joseph's Catholic Church, 211 Atlantic Ave., Shreveport, LA, 71105
