A Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine Capuano Peters, 90, will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 425 McCormick St., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery in Haughton, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. Father Fidel Mondragon will be the celebrant.
Josephine Capuano Peters, a beloved member of her community, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 27, 1934, Josephine led a life filled with love, grace, and a commitment to those around her.
After graduating from Bossier High School, Josephine began her lifelong partnership with her husband, Sam Roy Peters, Jr. The couple ran Peters Grocery together for over fifty years, creating a warm and welcoming environment. Josephine's dedication to her customers was evident in everything she did, especially the fine sandwiches that she was so famous for.
Josephine's personality shone through in her interactions with others. Described as a gracious, wise, and insightful woman, she possessed a remarkable ability to put the needs of others before her own. Her kindness and empathy made her approachable, and she had an innate talent for understanding the feelings of those around her. Those who knew her were constantly reminded of her angelic nature, as she navigated life's challenges with grace and without complaint.
Josephine was a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church; she found great joy in her faith. Josephine was an amazing cook, her love for cooking brought her family together, and she relished the moments spent with those she held dear, especially her grandchildren.
Her legacy of compassion, dedication, and warmth will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by friends and family alike, remembered as a beacon of light in their lives.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Michael Capuano and Lena Alenzi Capuano; her beloved husband, Sam Roy Peters, Jr.; son, Tommy R. Peters; granddaughter, Melissa Rose Maggio; sisters, Mary Capuano Peters and husband, Sam, Vesta Capuano Peters and husband, John, and Flora Capuano; brothers, Roy Capuano and wife, Sue, Vince Capuano, and wife, Rose, Sam Capuano and wife, Frances; nephews, Mickey Capuano and Joe Roy Peters and sister-in-law, Connie Peters. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Peters Maggio, and husband, Vince; granddaughter, Sara Jo Maggio Williams and husband, Dusty; grandson, Brandon Peters; great-grandchildren, Grayson Williams, Joleigh Williams, and Gemma Williams. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and her beloved fur baby, Millie.
Honoring Josephine as pallbearers will be Brandon Peters, Grayson Williams, Vincent Capuano, Joseph Maggio, Joey Brickner, and Don Tubbs.
The family would like to express special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Nurse Cassie Cordoves, her caretaker, Toni Reeves, and sitter Teri Jackson for their care and compassion.
