Joy Proctor Gibson
Joy Proctor Gibson, 87 years-old, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at her home at The Cottages at the Glen in Shreveport, Louisiana after her valiant fight with Alzheimer's disease. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters extended her life. Joy was born on June 1, 1928 in Shreveport to Dudley and Mildred Proctor.
After graduating from C. E. Byrd High School, she attended and graduated from Centenary College with a Home Economics degree. At Centenary she met her sweetheart Jim Guy Gibson. The couple was married on January 29, 1949 in Shreveport where they lived for many years.
Married for 67 years, Jim and Joy raised their two wonderful daughters, Joyce and Cindy. Possessing a true servant's heart, Joy faithfully prepared for family and friends through cooking and sewing. She shaped her family's spirituality by her ever tireless Christian example and her involvement in prayer groups and bible studies. Joy loved to dance, write, read, and travel.
Her struggle with Alzheimer's disease started about 11 years ago. In November, 2013 Joy moved into The Cottages at the Glen where she lived until her death. Our family is deeply grateful for the love and support Joy received from The Glen.
Her surviving family members include Jim Guy Gibson, husband of 67 years; two daughters, Joyce Gibson and Cindy Gibson Griffin and her husband John Griffin; grandmother to Five grandchildren, Jason Griffin, David Griffin, Elizabeth Griffin, Reagan Reynolds, and Lawson Bennett; and great-grandmother to Four great-grandchildren.
