Joy Storey

The funeral services for Mrs. Joy Ponder Storey, age 90, or Arcadia, will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home with Adam Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery on Jonesboro Rd.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Garland Storey, Jr.; siblings, Willie Mae Bayer; Douglas Ray Ponder; Billy Ray Ponder; Johnny Lee Ponder; Jimmie Lee Ponder, and her parents Doris and Albert Ponder.

She was born on March 21, 1934, to Doris and Albert Ponder in Baskin, Louisiana. Joy was married to Garland Storey, Jr. on August 29, 1954.

Joy graduated from Mangham High School in 1952. Soon after graduation she moved to Ruston, LA to work for AT&T. She worked for AT&T there in Ruston for 35 years before her retirement in 1984.

She has been a faithful member of the Church of Christ since she was 13 years of age. For many years she served as Assistant Youth Director for Arcadia Church of Christ. She was also a bible class teacher for children and teenage girls. She worked for the food program through her church. She and Garland enjoyed having socials, cook-outs, camp outs, and fish fries at their home for church groups. She served the Lord faithfully her entire life.

Joy loved farm work on their place, such as helping Garland with their cows, horses and the yardwork. She spent a lot of her time cooking, sewing, and quilting. She was a great cook and did beautiful sewing and quilting.

Joe is survived by her sisters-in-law, Frances Ponder of Archibald, LA; Nadine Ponder of Sneads Ferry, NC; and Glenda Ponder of Waskom, TX, and by many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by those of us here, but we know she is happy to be with Garland and her family once again.

Honoring Joy as pallbearers will be her nephews.
