Joyce Marie Johnson Taylor

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Joyce Marie Johnson Taylor, 87 years old, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 19, 2023, joining her husband and sons. She was born in Baskin, LA on August 24, 1936 and had been a resident of Shreveport, LA for over 65 years. Joyce worked as a dental secretary at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center before retiring after over 40 years of service.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Rose Neath Southside Chapel. Services celebrating her life will follow at 2 pm. Officiating will be Rev. John Harp from Brookwood Baptist Church where Joyce was a member for over 65 years. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Neil Taylor; her sons, John Marc Taylor and Steven Craig Taylor; and her beloved Scottie Mandy Belle. Left to cherish her precious memory are her devoted daughter, Stacey Taylor Conklin and her husband Randy Conklin; her grandson Taylor Conklin and his wife Ashley Conklin; granddaughter Victoria Conklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Joyce was a loving, generous, godly woman who loved to attend bible study with her friends, volunteer with the Homebound Ministry, read, and travel with her daughter, Stacey – earning her the nickname Road Dawg. She will be remembered as a woman devoted to her family and to God and will be missed by all who knew her.

Honoring Joyce as pallbearers will be Randy Conklin, Taylor Conklin, and nephews Scott Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Jeff Reeves, and Glen Cook. Honorary pallbearers include nephews Denney Harris and Rorie Harris and lifelong friends Bill Larson, Rueben Scott, and Charles Turman.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff members at Christus Highland Hospital who worked tirelessly to make Joyce comfortable during her final days. Their compassion and professionalism will not be forgotten.
