Juanita Ann (Platt) DeWoody passed away in the evening on May 7, 2016 at her home in Bossier City, LA. She was born on November 29, 1925, the sixth of seven children in Clawson, TX to Chester and Ida Platt. She grew up on the Shawnee Prairie near Huntington, TX.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA at 1:30 p.m. Visitation and viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Hospice Chaplain Dana Casey will officiate.
Juanita married Andrew J. DeWoody, Jr. on September 22, 1941. A.J. was a member of the U.S. Army 503rd regimental combat team and was soon deployed to the South Pacific. "Nede" went to work at the Todd Shipyards in Houston, TX, and became a skilled welder. When A.J. returned from the war, she became a full time homemaker. Two sons were born to this union.
Juanita later worked for the Shreveport Times newspaper in the classified advertisement dept. and retired after many years of faithful service. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, working in the yard, and spending time with her family.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her sons, Dana P. and wife, Suzy of Humble, TX and James R. and wife, Pamela of Kansas City, MO; brother, Kenneth Platt and wife, Lorena of San Antonio and sister, Elouise Berlin of Lake Havasu City, AZ; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Dale, Shane Buckalew, Ed Jones, James Clark, Corey Smith, and Brian Dale.
