Juanita Ivie Erickson was born on April 22, 1928 in Neosho, Missouri to Henry Louis and Susa Jane Ivie. She passed away while sleeping peacefully in her daughter’s home on February 3, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Juanita Erickson was a remarkable woman, who was married to her husband, Paul, for 44 years. She loved him dearly and enjoyed being a farmer’s wife. They were old-fashioned and not interested in things of the world. As the song says: 'This world was not their home, they were truly just a passing through.' And they made sure everyone knew that!
They knew how to laugh and love, but they weren't afraid to cry either. They were the first ones to church and the last ones to leave. They were there every time the door was open. At home in the evening, they faithfully gathered the children around the table every night, except church night, to read the Bible, then they would get down on their knees to pray. They were truly God’s people.
When Juanita finally had to go live at Summerfield Estates, she made sure her meal table was right where everyone had to pass her so she could tell them all about how God was taking care of her! Whoever sat at her table knew to bow their heads to bless every meal. She was shy except when she was praying or talking about God.
She was transformed when she prayed, and it was beautiful to see. She was steadfast in her faith in God and his Holy Word, because to her, it truly was the whole and total essence of life. She lived for God with all her heart, and now as the song so aptly states: 'She finally gets to see him, look upon his face. There to sing forever of his saving grace. On the streets of glory, she can lift her voice. Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice!'
