A memorial service for Judith “Judy” C. Kelley, 86, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church Shreveport, 3715 Youree Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Officiating the service will be Reverend Dr. Wybra Price and Reverend Megan Twyman.
Judy was born on October 23, 1938 in Ringgold, Louisiana to Philip and Edwina Cook and passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Judy was successful from an early age. She showed her first heifer at the state fair at the age of 12, graduated Ringgold High School as President of her class- where she was voted most likely to succeed and most versatile and was an accomplished piano and trumpet player. She was involved with the glee club, band, FHA, 4H, student council and was the editor of the school paper. She received the American Legion Award in 1956, was the 1959 National Dairy Princess and was voted Red Bud Princess at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. While at Centenary College of Louisiana, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Louisiana State University.
In 1963, she lived in San Francisco and worked with the American Red Cross. After moving back to Louisiana, she sold advertising for the local newspaper in Monroe, Louisiana and later worked for Shreveport Regional Dialysis Center as a social worker. Her main, and most favorite, job was being a homemaker, wife and mother.
She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was part of the “Super Senior Singers” as well as a children’s Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed volunteering at the food bank, playing golf, working out, basketball, baseball, spending time with her grandchildren and watching her beloved LSU with friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and son, Phil Kelley. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Milton Kelley; son, Paul Kelley and wife, Liz; daughter, Kristi Hight; brothers, Philip Cook and wife, Virginia and Chip Cook and wife, Ayn; sister, Jan Isenberger; grandsons, Colton Kelley and Cody Kelley; granddaughters, Ashley Hight and Sydney Hight; niece, Susan Grider and nephews, John David Harrison and Philip Cook, Jr.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be The Upper Room Sunday School Class, Super Senior Singers and grandsons, Colton Kelley and Cody Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, Broadmoor United Methodist Church Shreveport, 3715 Youree Dr, Shreveport, LA 71105 or the charity of your choice.
