Julia R. Smith, 80, Shreveport, LA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus on Monday, April 3, 2017 at home. She was born September 29, 1936, in Fort Davis, TX, the daughter of Joe Rodriguez, Sr. and Agueda Talavera. She was a homemaker. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior many years ago and was baptized by her son's best friend, Bro. Jeff Hurst. She is survived by five daughters, Roxanne Smith New and her husband, Paul, of Haughton, LA, Tina Smith Herman and her husband, John of Haughton, LA, Emilee Smith of Shreveport, LA, Toni Smith Bailey and her husband, Bucky of Athens, LA, Tracy Smith Verdin and her husband, Jeff of Summerfield, LA; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, Joe Rodriguez, Jr. and his wife, Jeannie of La Luz, New Mexico; one sister-in-law, Margaret Rodriguez of Roswell, New Mexico; and her dear friend, Kay Bean of Minden, LA whom she considered her 6th daughter. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by two sisters, Jesusita Rodriguez and Donna Sue Rodriguez, one brother, Gliserio Rodriguez, her son, Russell (Rusty) C. Smith, Jr. and twin great-granddaughters, Angel and Aubrie Castine-Smith. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Rose-Neath Cemetery located at 5185 Swan Lake Rd, Bossier City, LA. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Rokaw and the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center Pierremont, Dr. Richard Kamm, Drs. Jerome Danzell and Frederick White and to the Willis-Knighton ER doctors and nurses, Willis-Knighton ICU and to the doctors and staff on the 7th floor at Willis-Knighton Pierremont for their amazing care while our mother was there, and special thanks to Monica and Brenda of Willis-Knighton Hospice for their kind and gentle care for our mom and my sister, Emilee and myself, Roxanne as her end of life caregivers. The family suggest memorials be made to the charity of donor's choice in her memory. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26
