Julie Jane (DuPont) Wynn was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 20, 1942 and passed away peacefully at her home of 60 years on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Julie was the first born of Elzia and Dan DuPont and would become the oldest of twelve children. She grew up along the bayou with her family where she took great pride in helping to raise her younger siblings. Growing up, her parents owned and operated DuPont’s Fish Market. Family was the most important thing to her, and she continued to prove that throughout her entire life.
She was married to the love of her life, Billy Wynn, for 53 wonderful years. They raised their three boys, but had a helping hand in raising countless others. Being a mom to her three sons was the joy of her life. Julie and Billy had an open door policy and most weekends their house was so full that there would be people sleeping on the porch. Julie lived to celebrate and host, throwing the best parties that would last all weekend.
Aside from being a wonderful wife and mother, she was an even better mamaw. She had seven grandchildren, and they will all say that there was no better mamaw than her. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, and not a single day went by without her letting them know how special they were. The amount of love she poured into them could never be matched.
Julie was an avid storyteller. She told the very best stories, perfectly accounting every detail. She had a love for the outdoors, and every summer you could find her on the Red River, fishing and swimming with her family. Julie was also a great poker player, who lived for Friday night poker games, staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning playing, even into her eighties. She was also an incredible cook and always brought people together through the love of food. If you knew Julie, you sat at her table and enjoyed her sweet, southern cooking. Sitting around her kitchen table or on her back porch just talking will easily be what everyone will miss most.
Julie loved every phase of her life and welcomed everything that came her way. She was strong-willed and stubborn, funny and smart, and had the biggest heart of anyone. With her otherworldly wisdom and knowledge, she always knew what to say. She had a saying for almost everything and always gave the best advice.
Life without her won’t be the same, but we are so thankful we had her wisdom to help us navigate this world. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wynn, and her son, Cody Wynn. She is survived by her sons, Billy Wynn and wife, Tabatha and Wade Wynn and wife, Amy and her seven grandchildren, Kacynn Wynn, Amber Wynn, Haley Horn and husband, Gage, Presli Jetton and husband, Cody, Billy Wynn and wife, Lauren, Peyton Buxton and husband, Matt and Colton Wynn. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers, and countless nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Julie’s home on Sunday June 30, 2024 beginning at 11 o’clock. We would like to invite friends and family to join us in celebrating the incredible life of Julie Wynn.
