A memorial service for Kary “Bumps” Gene Szyska, 55, will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Craig Kennedy. 

Kary Gene Szyska, born on January 14, 1970, to Larry R. Szyska and Barb Szyska in Warren, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Kary’s life was defined by his dedication to service, his love for family, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and loyalty.

Kary served his country with pride in the United States Air Force for over 30 years, retiring in June 2022 as a Master Sergeant (MSGT). Throughout his distinguished career, he was deployed to numerous locations around the world, showcasing his unwavering commitment to duty and his country. His dedication to protecting and serving others extended to his role with the Bossier City Police Department, where he began as a reserve officer in 1996 and later served full-time until his retirement as a Corporal in 2012.

Family was Kary’s greatest joy. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and nieces, spoiling them with love and laughter. His passion for LSU football brought his family together for game-day excitement, and he cherished traveling with loved ones on cruises, creating precious memories that will be forever remembered. Relaxing on beach trips was another way Kary found joy in life’s simple pleasures.

Kary’s warm spirit, loyalty, and selflessness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Kary was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Marion Szyska; his maternal grandmother, Irene Pearl Lussiere; and Leslie Read. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Barb Szyska; beloved wife, Anissa Szyska; sons, Ryan Szyska, Cody Lambert, Tyler Browning, and Craig Browning; grandchildren, Asher Browning, River Browning, Holden Browning, Knox Lambert, and Kylie McKnight; brothers, Lincoln Read, EJ Szyska, and Larry Szyska; sisters, Cheryl Valery, and Chandra Husketh. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Honoring Kary as pallbearers will be Joe Thomerson, Jeff Ross, Jason Lowe, and Michael Powell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Air Force Engineering and Technical Services, Cameron Ward, Jesse Scott, Tim Adcock, C.J. Gillard, and Tony Hunter.
