All good things must come to an end, and such was the life of Ken Hendrickson, beloved husband, son, grandfather, educator, ... the list goes on and on.
Kenneth Paul Hendrickson, Sr. was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on July 12, 1938, and left this life on January 9, 2025. He was the son of Joe and Ora Smith Hendrickson, the brother of Patsy Jo Lynn, and the father of Janet Hendrickson DeFatta and Kenneth Paul Hendrickson, Jr. He married Sandra Kibler on June 16, 1961, and is survived by Sandra, Janet and husband Jerry, and Paul and wife Miki, as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ken was a member of the first graduating class of North Caddo High School in Vivan, Louisiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in music education from Northwestern State University, where he was drum major of the NSU band. His Master of Education degree was from Northwestern, and he earned a master’s degree in school administration from Stephen F. Austin.
He was the band director at Logansport High School, guidance counselor, then principal at Logansport Rosenwald Elementary School. In addition, he was a volunteer firefighter (Logansport VFD and DeSoto Fire District 1), on the administrative committee of Fire District 1, called Bingo for the fire department, a 32nd Degree Mason, a scoutmaster, and Mardi Gras king.
At Logansport First United Methodist Church, he was a faithful member, Sunday School teacher, choir director, Building and Grounds chairman who oversaw the construction of the new sanctuary after a tornado destroyed the old one, mission trip leader to Texas and Mexico, and worker at Camp Caney, where he built bunk beds for the cabins.
After retirement, he enjoyed 5th wheel camping, cruising, and woodworking, making many items for home and the church, as well as hundreds of Ken-Pens for friends and family. Dementia and strokes took Ken’s memory and balance in 2020 that led to The Cottages and Village Health Care at The Glen in Shreveport. The family appreciates Tammy Delk, the staff at The Glen, and LifePath Hospice for taking care of Ken when he couldn’t take care of himself.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 located at Logansport First United Methodist Church, 401 Gum Street, Logansport, LA 71049.
