Kenneth R. Edwards

Kenneth R. Edwards, 88, entered his eternal home January 4, 2018. A service celebrating Kenneth's life will be held at Rose-Neath Southside on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:30 am. Kenneth was a faithful member of Southern Hills Church of Christ and the minister, Joe Huffman, will conduct the service. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5 -7 p.m. at Rose Neath Southside. Kenneth, the son of Harry and Callie Risinger Edwards, was born on November 9, 1929, in Shreveport, LA. Preceding him in death was his wife Caroline Edwards, daughter Martha Jo Kamps, his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and James Perser. He is survived by daughters, Jamie (Gary) Cislaghi of Shreveport, LA, and Paula (Reid) Ward of McKinney, TX; son-in-law, Jerry Kamps of Tyler, TX; wife, Gloria M. Edwards of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Amber (Eric) Venters, Ethan (Jennifer) Cislaghi, Carson (Melissa) Kamps, Callie (Doug) Kesel, Conner (Taylor) Kamps, Andrew (Blair) Ward, Austin Ward, and Tanner (Ashley) Ward; and 13 great-grandchildren with great grandsons 14 and 15 coming in July. Kenneth graduated from Fair Park High School in 1947 and had been active in the Fair Park Reunion Group of '47. He was a respected member of the Shreveport construction industry as owner of American Tile & Marble. Kenneth enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a fan of LSU football, watching every game, and steadfast fan of TCU football, having a grandson who played for the school. His greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his family, especially his 8 grandchildren and great-grands. He loved each one deeply and they loved and admired him. While in college, each of the grandchildren received what Kenneth referred to as WAM, (walking around money). Prior to mailing the monthly WAM he would send a "WAM alert email", a "get ready it is coming" notice. His one stipulation was that it be used in any manner the recipient desired. Some favorite times that the family remembers are 25 years of beach trips to Florida and weekly back yard fish fries. Many of the grandchildren who are now adults started life with a fried fish in one hand and a beach ball in the other, all because of a loving, caring grandfather. The family would like to say a special thank you to Velma Thomas for the years of assistance and tender care that she gave to Kenneth. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Carson Shadrix Medical Fund, 9080 Southwood, Shreveport, LA 71118 or to the Dup15q Alliance, in honor of Kenneth's great-granddaughter, Claire Kamps. https://www.dup15q.org
