Kenneth O. Shipp, Sr.

Bossier City, LA - Kenneth O. Shipp, Sr. was 87 years old when he passed away in Grace Home on July 19, 2014. Ken was born October 15, 1926 in Haughton, LA to Donald and Eunice Shipp. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy working as a radio technician. He then proceeded to go to Louisiana State University and received his first Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. During this time he met Ruth Robichaux where they were married on May 4, 1950. Wanting to further his education he received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at Auburn University. During this time and in between, they had 2 sons. After graduation, he returned home near Haughton and settled in Bossier City and began work as a pharmacist. Through continuing education, he achieved a Doctorate of Pharmacy. During this time they had a daughter. After several years Ken got the opportunity to be a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep and enjoyed that job until his retirement. He was a faithful member of Airline Baptist Church in Bossier City for nearly 30 years. At the time of his death he was a Deacon Emeritus. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Martha Tooke; and a brother Dr. James H Shipp. He is survived by his wife Ruth; 2 sons, Kenneth Shipp, Jr. (Celeste); Barry Shipp (Judy) and daughter, Kathryn Shipp. He was also blessed with 3 granddaughters; Lexie Spivey (Lance), Miranda Rock (Chris); Amanda Smith (Jon) and 1 grandson, Kenneth Shipp, III (Kelly) What a blessing he had! 10 great grandchildren (the latest to be born 2 days after his death) Ken is also survived by his oldest brother, Dr. Donald E. Shipp, Jr. (Elizabeth). What a glorious, fulfilling life he had. But now he is spending his time with the Lord and all the many friends he had on this Earth. "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see. When I look upon His face, The One who saved me by His grace." A private Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Centuries Memorial Park to be followed by an 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service at Airline Baptist Church, Bossier City. Officiating will be Rev. Harrell Shelton, assisted by Rev. Chad Mills, pastor of Airline Baptist Church. The family will always be grateful to Dr. Seborn Woods and Dr. Roy Fleniken. We were also blest to have had the Northwest War Veterans Home and Grace Home to care for Ken during his last day. Words cannot express what loving care he had in the last 2 months of his life.
