Keri Alice Kitchings

Graveside services for Keri Allison Kitchings, 61, will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Church Cemetery, 3191 LA Hwy. 507, in Coushatta, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Rev. Richard Kaufman. Keri was born on November 6, 1959. A beautiful baby girl was presented to Bennett and Alice Kitchings at Willis-Knighton Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Love was poured upon her by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Her beautiful blue eyes and blonde curly hair with a hint of red, brought us many loving memories which we cherish. When God sent Keri to us, He did not send what everyone thinks of as a perfect child, but at some point, whatever the cause, we became aware that she had some problems. For whatever reason, God knew this family needed this child. Through all the years Keri spent at home, she was lovingly cared for by her mother and father, and a younger brother, Steven, who so often had to make sacrifices in his life for her needs. This he did wonderfully with never any resentment. As Keri grew older, her needs became greater and she was placed where her needs and care could be better met. Her mother so lovingly watched over her by daily visits. This was done with never any complaints. Alice and Bennett had some dear friends who gave time and support. Keri is preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice H. Kitchings and Bennett M. Kitchings; paternal grandparents, Phillip B. Kitchings and Ellie Mae Kitchings; and maternal grandparents, Allen Hood and Christine Hood. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Steven B. Kitchings; aunts, Sherry K. Jones and Aline Hood Upshaw; and numerous cousins. After Alice's passing, Bennett made sure a day never passed that he didn't go to see Keri and take her a treat. Often on those trips, he sang Keri's favorite song, "You Are My Sunshine." When illness suddenly caused a break in those visits, Steve began to intensify his care of Keri and again lovingly did so. God sent us a beautiful child who had to live a life that none of us can imagine, but as the saying goes, "God makes everything beautiful in His time." So on July 14, 2021, He called Keri home where everything is perfect! The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at The Guest House Nursing Care Center for their care and compassion over the years. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Shiners Children Hospital.
