SHREVEPORT, LA - Kevin Mark Broughton passed away on April 18, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained three years ago in a car accident that left him a quadriplegic. He was born in Shreveport on May 22, 1959, to the late James Broughton and Kathleen Broughton and was the last of four children. Kevin was a contractor by trade and a skilled craftsman. He was passionate about sports, especially golf and was an avid LSU and Saints fan. A perfect day for Kevin was a football game with a pot of gumbo and treasured moments were big family gatherings for holidays and football games.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Debbi (Deb) Broughton; mother, Kathleen Broughton; son, Kyle Broughton and wife, Katherine; daughter, Britney Rust and husband Jason; grandchildren, Vincey, Conor, Cannon and Ava; sister, Linda Broughton Day and husband, Pete; brothers, Jim Broughton and wife, Kandy, Michael Broughton and wife, Carolyn; nephews, Jason Broughton, Josh Broughton, and Andrew Broughton.
Kevin\'s three year journey following his accident was difficult but along the way his path was made easier by the remarkable care and compassion of Louisiana Home Care; the doctors and nurses at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, ICU; and The Touro Infirmary, New Orleans, for helping Deb and Kevin find their new normal. A special thanks to Rev. David Daniel and the Celebration Church.
Kevin\'s life was forever changed by his accident, but the most significant change in his life was 21 years earlier when he married Deb, whom he loved dearly. He called her \"his angel\" and she was and always will be.
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Kevin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Donations may be made to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for spinal cord injuries.
