SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Mr. L J Sumrall, 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, with Bro. Steve Gilley and Bro. "Step" Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Summer Grove Cemetery in Shreveport. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Sumrall was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1951. For over 30 years he operated Sumrall Construction Company. He served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member. He was preceded in death by his father, John "OL" Sumrall; mother, Jessie Westbrook Sumrall; son, Larry Jerome Sumrall; and brother, Alvern Sumrall. Mr. Sumrall is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Stevens Sumrall; sons, Byron Wayne Sumrall, Steven Alvern Sumrall and wife, Debra, Timothy Ray Sumrall and Jerry DeWayne Sumrall; daughter, Robin Sumrall Hill and husband, Thomas; grandchildren, Jeremy Sumrall, Jason Sumrall, Scott Sumrall, Megan Sumrall, John Pickett Sumrall, Abigail Aldrich, Aaron Hill, Jonathan Hill, MaryAnne Hammett, April Sumrall, Steven Sumrall, Jr., Michael Sumrall, Brandon Sumrall, Nicole Tims, Courtney Marlin, Elizabeth Roddy, Sarah Sumrall, Dustin Sumrall; 16 great-grandchildren and one brother, Raymond Sumrall and wife, Malenna. Mr. Sumrall's grandsons will honor him as pallbearers.
