L. Frank Moore

Lewis Frank Moore, loving husband and devoted father, died in Shreveport, LA on Friday, March 5, 2021. In all the ways that matter, his life was a success. His father died when Frank was just three years old. He and his mother, Josephine Rockwell Moore, moved to Shreveport in 1929. It was the beginning of the Great Depression. Undaunted by those circumstances, Frank flourished as an Eagle Scout and an accomplished musician. When war broke out Frank joined the United States Navy at 17. After the war, he paid for a graduate engineering degree from Louisiana State University by leading a dance band and taking in laundry. His workout buddy, Bob Lorio, introduced him to his sister, Jerry, and somehow Frank convinced her it would be a good idea if they got married. It was his luckiest break in life. They returned to Shreveport in 1953 where they reared five children, Steven Loran Moore, Walter Cecil Moore, Byron Robert Moore, Gordon Rockwell Moore and Leigh Ann Moore Miller. Frank joined The Frymaster Corporation in 1953 and put together a group to buy it in 1955 at the age of 29. He led the company to over sixty times its acquisition size, becoming the world's largest fryer manufacturer. During his years with Frymaster he would often travel over 100,000 miles per year. This was only possible because Jerry was lovingly managing their home and raising their five children. They were a team in every way. In 1982, he formed Welmoore Industries, Inc. to re-acquire Frymaster and three other companies. In 1986, he acquired a fiberglass boat manufacturing company, Hydra-Sports, Inc. in Nashville, TN. In 1988, he became Vice-President of the Biomedical Research Foundation and served as chairman of the building committee for the Biomedical Research Institute. He has also contributed his time, energy and resources locally to the Committee of 100, Schumpert Medical Systems, Barksdale Forward, Community Foundation, Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and many others. He has served the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church as Ruling Elder, Moderator of the Red River Presbytery, Lay Representative to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, U.S., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Austin Presbyterian Seminary in Austin, TX and Trustee of Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. During his life, Frank enjoyed music, tennis, travel and wine. These avocations were accentuated by the presence of family and dear friends. When Frank faced difficult decisions with no obvious answers, he turned to his favorite Bible passage, James 1:5, quoted from the Living Bible, "If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him; he will not resent it." Frank was never shy about asking God for wisdom. Despite his professional accomplishments and service to the community, his family has always known him by the titles he wears best: Husband and Father. Those that have known him professionally or in the community are to be forgiven for believing that Frank was giving them his best in all his endeavors. His family knows better. He has always saved his best for his wife, Jerry, his children, and his grandchildren. Thanks, Dad, for a job very well done. Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Jerry Leigh Lorio Moore of Shreveport, LA; their five children, Steven Moore of Shreveport, Walter Moore and wife, Kelly of Flower Mound, TX, Byron Moore and wife, Melinda of Ruston, Gordon Moore and wife, Debbie, of Shreveport, and Leigh Ann Moore Miller and husband, Michael of Shreveport; his fourteen grandchildren, Thomas and Sara Moore, Sam (Katie) and James Moore, Matthew (Haven), Michael (Analee), Elizabeth, and John David (Alli) Moore, Madeleine and James Moore, and Kathryn (JR) Wilson, Emily, Harrison, and Lauren Miller; and his two great-grandchildren, Lily Grace Moore and Hudson Joiner Moore. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Shreveport, LA. A private graveside service will follow. Officiating will be Jim Freeman of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance inside the church service will be limited to 50% and masks will be required. There will be no visitation out of health concerns. Honoring Frank as pallbearers will be his eight grandsons, Thomas Moore, Sam Moore, James Robert Moore, Matthew Moore, Michael Moore, John David Moore, James Frank Moore, and Harrison Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to The Glen Retirement System, 403 E. Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, LA 71115. The family wishes to thank Preferred Care at Home and St. Joseph's Hospice for their excellent care.
