Lamon "Pappaw" Thomas

Graveside services for Lamon "Pappaw" Thomas will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Centuries Memorial Park with Robby Bolden, his son-in-law, officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2017. Lamon was born October 29, 1927 in Coushatta, Louisiana, to Ira and Lola Thomas. He passed away, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness on September 29, 2017 at Aime Hospice in Shreveport. He served in the U.S. Marines and retired from the U.S. Post Office after 42 years, a job that he loved going to every day. He enjoyed his retirement by fishing, golfing, and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. His greatest joy in life was his family. Early on in life, he enjoyed spending every weekend at Lake O' the Pines fishing with his two best friends and neighbors, Calvis Reynaud and Bill Kappelman. They always had a domino game going. Lamon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leroy, Reggie, and Duwayne; and his sister, Aileen Tatum. Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Dora; his daughters, Debbie Green and husband Robert, Donna Anstead, and Traci Bolden and husband Robby; grandchildren, Allen Green and wife, Shonda, Ben Green and wife, Lacey, Mark and Matt Anstead, and Kristen, Kaitlyn, and Hannah Bolden; seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Cindy Chester and Winnie Rasmussen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Sarah Scott; special daughter, Debbie Bickham and husband Mickey; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Pallbearers honoring Pappaw will be his grandsons, his great-grandson, Kalob Green, and nephew, David Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother-in-law, Bobby Scott, and best friend, Bill Kappelman. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Willis-Knighton North and Aime Hospice for their wonderful care during our Pappaw's illness. We will forever be grateful for the love and care you showed him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude Research Foundation, Aime Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
